XL...XXL? Still??? Seriously?!?
So yesterday I had two clothing events. I went to REI only to find that their women's XL is still a little snug for my taste...ok, moderately depressing, but whatever. Later that day, I found myself at Eddie Bauer's sale rack, and found that the XXL fit like a charm. Seriously. That's ex-ex-f*cking-ell....
How depressing is that!?!? I mean, really, I know I've lost 45 pounds at this point (yep, that's an update - down 1 more), but it sucks to feel on one hand, "wow, I'm not so big anymore..." but then good 'ole mainstream society sucker-punches with the XXL tag in the shirt you want to buy. WTF? I'm in the precarious position of not being able to wear mainstream clothes just yet, but finding the smallest size at the ole'LB too big (on top, anyway..I'm still one of ample hippage...). So, I'll make do - I am smart enough not to let this impact me in a big way, but really people! XXL?? ;)
p.s. I wore a L t-shirt for my workout yesterday, so I do realize I'm not really an XXL...

And, don't forget that sizing can vary wildly within the same manufacturer! It's thoroughly depressing to find multiple pairs of pants in the same size in the same darn store only to find when putting them on that one fits beautifuly and the other is so darn tight you can't get them zipped! My lower half is definitely my problem area, so I've been avoiding trying on pants in those mainstream stores. :P
You'll get there, Jenn! (I had to lose about 85 lbs before I could find anything in those mainstream stores.)

The good news is: we're losing and nothing will stop us. The numbers are just a mystery to me. I've got just about every size in my closet and they all fit. I wish the clothing industry would standardize for crying out loud. It is very exasperating to have to no clue what size clothes you should even begin to try on... And a pox on whoever the lunk head committee members were that cooked up XL, XXL, XXXL, etc.
Don't be depressed about the XXL, Eddie Bauer clothes run small! The XXL is not cut anything like the Women's size. I had to boycott Eddie Bauer a long time ago. It just wasn't fair. Their XXL is not the same as an XXL found other places. You are doing a great job and I love following your journal. I am hoping to have the lap band in March/April 2006 so it's very fun to follow along with others who are living with the band. I'm learning so much and will have a very good idea of what I'm getting myself into. At first I was mad that my insurance wanted a 6 month medically supervised diet, but now I feel so much more informed. Your story gives hope to those of us who can't even fit into an XXL EB shirt! You're doing a great job. Keep up the good work.
REI notoriously runs small so I wouldn't take that seriously at all. You are doing great!
